A new way to measure social dilemmas in games has been introduced. Instead of just looking at how much of a dilemma exists, this new method compares the payoff at the best outcome with the payoff at the most common outcome. The relationship between these two measures varies for different types of games. The new method can also show if adding social factors, like network connections, changes the dilemma. This method has been shown to be useful in understanding social dilemmas in vaccination and traffic flow scenarios.
