Revolutionizing Rice Production: Health Crop Maps Ensure Food Security in Malaysia
The goal of the study was to monitor the health of rice crops in Malaysian paddy fields using satellite images. Researchers used Landsat 8 images to calculate two vegetation indices, NDVI and SAVI, to create maps showing the crop health. They found that NDVI and SAVI values varied throughout the year, with the biggest difference in October. These values range from -1 (dead vegetation) to +1 (healthy vegetation), helping to identify areas of high and low crop health.
