A new dataset was created by combining trademark and firm data to study trademark registration by U.S. firms. The study found that firms filing for trademarks tend to have higher employment and revenue growth. Larger and older firms are more likely to seek trademark registration. Firms with research and development activities are also more inclined to apply for trademarks. Overall, trademark filing is linked to growth in employment and revenue for firms.
