The European Union aims to improve energy market integration and sustainability. The article reviews progress made in the last six decades and discusses current and future challenges in EU energy policy. The main questions addressed are whether the EU will achieve its energy goals, if the Energy Union will bring the desired breakthrough, and whether the benefits are noticeable at the EU level. The study also considers new factors shaping the future of the Energy Union.
