Ethiopia's Sanitation Revolution: Factors Driving Household Latrine Adoption and Use
Ethiopia has made significant progress in reducing open defecation by focusing on promoting latrine adoption. A review of 37 studies found that latrine coverage is at 70%, with 55% being improved latrines. Latrine use is reported at 72%. Factors influencing sanitation outcomes include the quality of latrines, with research mainly focusing on initial adoption rather than sustainability. More research is needed on factors affecting the long-term success of sanitation efforts in Ethiopia.
