Origami-ending crash tubes revolutionize vehicle safety in low-speed accidents.
Crash tubes are important for keeping vehicles safe in accidents. A new type called origami-ending crash tubes (OETs) was studied using computer simulations. By changing the angle and thickness of the tube, researchers found that a dihedral angle of 165 degrees and a thickness of 2mm make the tube better at absorbing energy and reducing impact force. OETs are a good choice for making vehicles safer in crashes.
