Global parrot conservation strategy revamped to save endangered species.
Parrots are in danger due to factors like climate change and hunting. To protect them, it's not enough to just count how many species there are. We need to also look at how they function in their environment and their evolutionary relationships. By combining species richness, functional diversity, and phylogenetic diversity, scientists created an Integrated Biodiversity Index (IBI) to find the best places to focus conservation efforts for parrots. They discovered that areas with lots of different parrot species don't always have high functional or phylogenetic diversity. This new index helps us better understand and protect parrot biodiversity worldwide.
