Real-time object detection for traffic surveillance was improved by using Regional Convolutional Neural Networks (R-CNN) instead of regular Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). R-CNN achieved a significantly higher accuracy of 75.6% compared to CNN's 47.7%. This means R-CNN is better at identifying objects in traffic surveillance videos.
