Commercial gentrification in Chengdu reshapes urban landscape and economy.
The article explores how commercial gentrification is changing in Chengdu, China. By analyzing data on new retail places, the study found that these areas shifted from one central location to multiple areas in the city over the past decade. Entertainment services saw the most growth during this time. Commercial gentrification in Chengdu also moved from developing towards the city center to spreading outwards. It was linked to the growth of knowledge-based industries but not to changes in other sectors. Interestingly, housing prices did not seem to be affected by commercial gentrification. The study suggests that city planners should consider how new retail industries interact with the city's evolving economy.
