Cameroon's Land Ownership System Stifles Development, Favors State Control
Land ownership in Cameroon is governed by two systems: statutory and customary. A law from 1974 aimed to harmonize these systems but may give the government too much control over land. The study used content analysis of various sources to show that this system creates too much bureaucracy and hinders development. The researchers suggest a balance between statutory and customary land ownership to make land access easier for everyone.
