South Asian commercial banks facing decline in productivity, efficiency challenges ahead.
The article examines the efficiency and productivity of commercial banks in South Asia from 2013 to 2019. They found that on average, South Asian banks were 62.45% efficient, with 37.55% inefficiency. The inefficiency was mainly due to technical issues rather than size problems. Overall, there was a slight decrease in productivity over the study period, mainly because of a decline in technical efficiency despite an increase in technology.
