Decentralization in managing natural resources in northeast Bangladesh has led to mixed outcomes. Privatization through leasing and community-based co-management systems has limited involvement of local government institutions in managing waterbodies. Simply including resource users in decision-making doesn't always protect resources effectively. Meaningful involvement of local communities and institutions is crucial for sustainable resource management.
