Polluted River Benue Threatens Aquaculture in Makurdi, Nigeria.
The study assessed the water quality of River Benue in Makurdi for aquaculture. Samples were collected from five sites over six months. The water had brownish color, temperatures between 27-34.4°C, and turbidity of 25.2-67.1 NTU. Chemical parameters like pH, alkalinity, hardness, and nutrients were also measured. Most values met FAO standards for aquaculture, except for magnesium, calcium, iron, and phosphate levels, which may need treatment for certain fish species.
