New Study Challenges Traditional Gondwana Boundaries in Himalayan Region
The article discusses the differences between plant-bearing layers in the extra-peninsular region and typical peninsular Gondwana. The Lesser Himalayan sequence is similar to peninsular Gondwana, while the Tethyan Himalayan region is different in sedimentation, flora, and geology. The term "Gondwana Sequence" isn't suitable for this region, but "Peri-Gondwana" is suggested for its paleogeographic context. The evolution of plant beds in this area is linked to major tectonic events documented in the Tethyan belt.
