Smallholder farmers boost chicken fertility with novel sperm extender.
A new rooster semen extender called NCAB, with added serine, was tested to see how well it preserved sperm quality and fertility after storage. The study found that using NCAB extender at a low temperature of 5°C improved sperm quality over 24 hours of storage. Sperm diluted with NCAB had higher fertility and hatchability rates compared to other extenders. The NCAB extender also increased the fertilizing capacity of sperm under field conditions. In conclusion, using the NCAB extender with serine at a low temperature positively affects sperm quality and fertilization.
