India has a rich marine biodiversity due to its long coastline, but it is not well understood compared to land biodiversity. Climate change is already affecting species diversity, like coral bleaching in the Laccadive Islands. We only know a small fraction of the total species in the ocean. Protecting marine biodiversity is important for ecosystem services and future economic benefits.
