Sheep farming in Izmir struggles to be sustainable, with economic factors outweighing social and environmental concerns.
The study measured the sustainability of sheep farming in İzmir province by looking at economic, social, and environmental factors. Data from 126 sheep farms in 2018 was used to calculate a sustainability index, with economic factors being the most influential. The overall sustainability level of sheep farming in İzmir was found to be at the limit according to FAO standards. To improve sustainability, a holistic approach considering all three factors is necessary.
