Fear of Anxiety Strongest Predictor of GAD Symptoms in Women: Study
The study looked at two models of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD): the Metacognitive Model (MCM) and the Emotion Dysregulation Model (EDM). They found that negative beliefs about worry were the strongest predictor of GAD symptoms overall. Fear of depression predicted GAD symptoms for men, while fear of anxiety predicted GAD symptoms for women. Incorporating aspects of the EDM into understanding and treating GAD could be helpful.
