Stormwater main source of fecal contamination in South Oyster Bay.
Researchers used microbial source tracking to identify sources of fecal contamination in South Oyster Bay, Long Island. They found that stormwater, especially in summer, was the main source of contamination. Human fecal markers were most commonly detected, while canine contamination was more prevalent in winter but had lower fecal coliform levels. Birds were not a significant source of contamination in the bay.
