Gansu's ecological footprint exceeds capacity, threatening sustainable development, urgent action needed to restore environmental balance.
The article evaluates ecological sustainability in Gansu Province using a three-dimensional ecological footprint model. The researchers analyzed the size and depth of the ecological footprint and found that from 2010 to 2020, both the per capita ecological footprint and ecological carrying capacity increased. Despite efforts to keep the footprint depth constant at 1.1364 gha/cap, the ecological footprint consistently exceeded the carrying capacity during the decade, signaling a deficit in the region's ecological and economic development. This suggests that Gansu Province faced challenges in maintaining a balance between ecological needs and economic growth during this period.
