The article discusses how causal consistency helps represent program executions in distributed systems. It introduces a new approach to define causal consistency for any data type based on sequential specifications. The study identifies three variations of causal consistency: weak causal consistency, causal convergence, and causal consistency, each focusing on different aspects of causality preservation and convergence in shared memory systems.
