Heavy metal contamination in apples poses health risks to consumers.
Heavy metal contamination in apples sold in Anambra State, Nigeria was studied to assess health risks. The researchers measured Cd, As, Pb, and Hg levels in yellow and red apples. Results showed Cd and Pb were highest, followed by As and Hg. Health risk assessments indicated acceptable levels, but increased heavy metal intake from apples could raise health risks. Further studies on heavy metal levels in popular fruits are recommended to ensure food safety.
