Switzerland's carbon footprint over twice global average, despite climate pledges.
Switzerland's own greenhouse gas emissions are relatively low compared to other countries. However, when considering emissions from both within the country and internationally caused by Swiss activities like importing goods and international air travel, the total emissions are much higher. In fact, each Swiss person is responsible for emitting about fourteen tonnes of harmful gases every year, which is two-and-a-half times more than the global average. Switzerland aims to decrease these emissions by 50% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. Unfortunately, it's likely that Switzerland didn't meet its planned reduction goals for 2020 under the international agreements on climate change.
