Flood-Prone Cities Can Slash Stormwater Costs and Impacts with Optimized Green Infrastructure
Low-impact development (LID) methods are being used to reduce stormwater issues caused by climate change and urban growth. A study in Renton, WA, USA, used a special computer program to find the best combination of LIDs to manage stormwater effectively and affordably. By analyzing different LIDs like rain barrels and permeable pavement, the study found that the right mix could reduce peak flow and runoff volume significantly, helping to prevent flooding and system failures. This research provides valuable insights for improving large-scale LID projects in urban areas.
