The scientists used fractal analysis and time-series methods to study fractures in Zircaloy-4 samples. They created a computer program to analyze SEM micrographs and calculated the fractal dimension and lacunarity of the fractures. By reconstructing the attractor and computing the autocorrelation dimension, they investigated the fracture surface. The fractal analysis method helped identify damage complications and describe the morphological parameters of different fractures.
