Standard design facilities struggle with novel problems, impacting efficiency and performance.
Concurrent design facilities aim to speed up design processes by bringing different experts together. However, when faced with unusual design problems, the standard way of organizing may not work well. A study looked at how different types of new design problems can affect this. They found that small changes affecting only a few designers can be managed, but bigger changes that impact many can cause unpredictable issues. This shows that sometimes these facilities need to be flexible to handle new design challenges.
