Nature-based solutions struggle to manage urban stormwater across varying climates.
Urban stormwater problems are a big issue due to climate change and more people living in cities. Scientists looked at different ways to manage stormwater using nature-based solutions like green roofs and rain gardens. They found that these solutions can help hold onto water, but the results vary a lot depending on the climate. Green roofs can keep about 56% of the water on average, but this number can be as low as 11% or as high as 99%. This makes it hard to give clear guidelines on how well these solutions work in different places. More research is needed to make these solutions better at handling stormwater, especially with more extreme rain expected in the future.
