Strawberry crop coefficient reveals efficient water management strategies in semi-arid climates.
The goal of the research was to figure out how much water strawberry plants need to grow well in a dry climate. The scientists used special containers to measure how much water the plants used at different stages of growth. They found that strawberries need about 3.8 millimeters of water every day, and a total of 873.4 millimeters during the growing season. Grass, used as a comparison, needed more water. The researchers also discovered that the amount of water the strawberries needed changed as they grew, with the plants covering more area as they got bigger.
