China's textile industry can slash water footprint with new baseline standards
Water footprints of natural fiber textile products in China were assessed to manage water resources. Baseline water footprints were calculated using a new method based on ISO 14046. Lower baseline footprints indicate less environmental impact on water resources. Three types of enterprises were evaluated, showing clear differences in water footprint levels. This is the first time baseline water footprints for textiles have been developed, aiding in industry transformation and policy development for water management.
