Landfill Waste in Kazakhstan Holds Potential as Energy Source
Solid waste from a landfill in Kazakhstan was studied to understand its composition and energy potential. The waste mainly consists of food, paper, plastic, glass, metal, textiles, wood, leather, bones, and rubber. Plastic makes up over 30% of the waste. The combustible part of the waste has low moisture and an average ash content of 18.4%. The volatile substances in the waste have an average value of 78.7%. The waste has a gross calorific value of 24.15 MJ/kg, showing it can be used as an energy source.
