Protecting Key Ocean Areas Could Safeguard 95% of Marine Biodiversity
Marine biodiversity is crucial for ocean health and economy. Protecting species, genes, and evolutionary history is key. Only 2.8% of the ocean is fully protected. By analyzing DNA data, scientists found high biodiversity in Central Indo-Pacific, Central Pacific, and Western Indian Ocean. Protecting about 22% of the ocean could conserve 95% of marine diversity. This study helps plan global marine conservation efforts.
