Cancer patients can now preserve fertility, improving quality of life after treatment.
Female cancer patients can now save their fertility for future family planning through a relatively new approach called oncofertility. This method helps them have better quality of life post-cancer by considering their desire to start a family. Guidelines were established in 2013 and recently, in 2020, the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology released additional recommendations. However, implementing these guidelines remains challenging due to a lack of information for both patients and professionals, as well as the high costs involved. Progress in healthcare has improved cancer survival rates, but certain treatments, like chemotherapy, can still pose risks to fertility. The article reviews current trends in preserving female fertility during cancer treatment, highlighting the advancements made in the past 5 years.
