The concept of natural rights may or may not have its origins in natural law, depending on the historical context. Some views in Western history do not support the idea of deriving natural rights from natural law, while others do. The idea of a singular "natural law" from Roman times to the sixteenth century may not accurately reflect the diverse perspectives on the topic.
