Climate Models Struggle to Capture Rainfall Patterns Across Global Monsoons
Climate models in the CMIP6 simulations have been evaluated to see how well they capture the daily patterns of rainfall in global monsoon regions. Scientists compared model data with real-world satellite data. They studied different monsoon areas and found that the models are better at simulating rain patterns over the ocean than over land. The newest simulations in CMIP6 show some improvement over previous ones, but there are still differences between how models handle land and ocean regions. The resolution of the models, or how detailed they are, affects how well they simulate the daily rain patterns, especially over coastal oceans.
