Revolutionizing Crop Production: Permanent Bed Planting Boosts Soil Health
Long-term conservation tillage and precision nutrient management in maize-wheat cropping systems can improve soil health and crop productivity. Permanent bed planting and zero tillage with residue retention showed significant improvements in soil properties, leading to a 13-18% increase in crop yield compared to conventional tillage. These practices also resulted in an additional net return of 400 per hectare. Precision nutrition using Nutrient Expert® software showed better results in soil health, yield, and economics compared to traditional fertilization practices. Overall, permanent bed planting with residue retention and precision nutrition are the best options for enhancing soil properties, crop yield, and economic returns in maize-wheat cropping systems.
