Mount St. Helens eruption sparks uneven vegetation recovery, impacting local ecosystems.
The study looked at how vegetation around Mount St. Helens has changed from 1984 to 2019 after the volcanic eruption. They used technology to track the growth of plants over time. Overall, the vegetation has been recovering, but some areas still have no plants growing. The eastern part of the area had slower recovery, possibly due to the eruption, steep slopes, lack of seeds, and wildfires. In contrast, the north-western part saw rapid growth in the first ten years, likely because of plant measures taken.
