Vertisols in India Show Higher Nitrogen Levels, Impacting Crop Yields.
The study compared nitrogen levels in different types of soils and cropping systems in Northern Telangana, India. Vertisols had higher available and total nitrogen compared to Inceptisols. CS1 cropping system had the highest available nitrogen content, followed by CS2, CS4, and CS3. Ammonical nitrogen made up a higher percentage of available nitrogen in Vertisols, while nitrate nitrogen was higher in Inceptisols at certain soil depths. The contribution of different forms of nitrogen to available nitrogen varied among the cropping systems, with CS4 having the highest nitrate nitrogen contribution.
