Improved cropping pattern boosts yields and profits in Bangladesh's Chalanbeel region.
The researchers conducted an experiment in Chalanbeel to improve crop patterns and yields by using different types of mustard and rice. They found that including mustard in the cropping pattern increased crop duration and rice equivalent yield by 46%. The improved pattern also showed higher land use efficiency and economic returns compared to the existing pattern. Specifically, the cropping pattern with BARI Sarisha-14 mustard variety had the highest gross return and gross margin, making it more profitable for farmers in the Chalanbeel region of Bangladesh.
