Smart Greenhouses Boost Crop Yields, Revolutionize Sustainable Farming for Developing Nations
In the study, scientists made a solar-powered smart greenhouse prototype for growing plants. They controlled the system remotely using an ESP-32 processor connected to solar panels and transmitted data through Telegram App. By comparing the growth, temperature, and weight of plants in this smart greenhouse with those grown without the system, they found that the smart greenhouse had higher temperatures but also better plant growth each week. On the warmest day, the smart greenhouse reached 36.10°C while the manually grown plants only reached 34.65°C. The coldest day in the smart greenhouse was 27.51°C compared to 26.64°C for non-greenhouse plants. Additionally, plants in the smart greenhouse weighed an average of 159 grams, while those grown manually weighed 123 grams. Overall, the smart greenhouse resulted in better plant growth compared to traditional methods.
