New framework turns urban waste into electricity and compost, saving environment.
Urban organic waste from the Bantama market in Kumasi was studied to see if it could be turned into biogas and compost. The waste could produce between 331.52 and 457.93 liters of methane per kilogram. The waste was not good for direct composting, but a system of anaerobic digestion and composting together could work well. This system could make a lot of electricity and compost each year. It would also be profitable and cost-effective. The government and municipalities could help private investors build a waste processing plant.
