Rubber farmers boost yields by adjusting tapping depth
Rubber tree plantations in Southeastern Côte d'Ivoire were studied to improve rubber yield by investigating the influence of tapping depth. The study found that tapping to a depth between 1 and 1.5 mm from the cambium results in higher yields but poorer tapping quality, while tapping to a depth between 1 and 2 mm gives lower yields but better tapping quality. The tapping depth is affected by the height of the tapping panel and the clone of the rubber tree.
