Oil-rich Oman stalls renewable energy transition to protect fossil fuel profits.
Renewable energy is not widely used in oil-producing Gulf Arab states like Oman, despite having lots of renewable resources. The way these countries are set up politically and economically has a big impact on this. In Oman, the government has been slowing down the switch to renewable energy by using media, reducing the power of renewable energy supporters, and supporting traditional oil-based technologies. The focus is more on protecting money from oil exports than on moving towards cleaner energy sources.
