Flood protection works reduce risk by up to 89% in Greece town
The researchers studied how flood protection works affect flood risk in Mandra, Greece. They used advanced calculations to assess flood hazards and building vulnerability. By comparing scenarios with and without flood protection works, they found that the works reduced flooded areas by 53-89% and lowered water depths and flow velocities. The main street of Mandra saw a decrease in flood risk by 27-74%. The effectiveness of the flood protection works increased with higher return periods and longer rain durations.
