New Steel Building Bracing Patterns Improve Safety During Strong Winds
The study looked at how different types of support structures affect the performance of moderately tall steel buildings when they are pushed sideways by wind or other forces. They used computer software to simulate a 20-story building and analyzed things like how much the building bends, twists, and how much stress is put on the columns. They found that the positioning of these support structures can make a big difference in how well the building can withstand these forces.
