New wheat hybrids show significant increase in grain yield potential.
The researchers studied how different wheat plants can be crossed to create hybrids with higher grain yield. They used a specific breeding method and tested 32 hybrids along with 12 parent plants. They found that some hybrids showed significant increases in grain yield compared to the parents. The best hybrid, J 16-08 × GW 366, had a 62.72% increase in grain yield over the better parent. This hybrid also showed a 36.92% increase in grain yield compared to a standard check. Overall, the hybrids with higher grain yield also had better traits related to yield, suggesting that combining certain wheat plants can lead to better crop production.
