Post-financial crisis liquidity risk in Pakistan banks on the rise.
The article examines how conventional banks in Pakistan were affected by the global financial crisis of 2008. They studied 15 out of 20 banks to see how their liquidity risk changed before and after the crisis. The researchers used a tool called Altman's Z-Score to predict the chances of bankruptcy for these banks. They found that liquidity risk was low before and right after the crisis, but it increased significantly in the following year. Despite this, the financial stability of Pakistan was not severely impacted. The Altman's Z-Score tool suggests that some banks may face bankruptcy in the near future.
