Novel Bacterial Strains Found in Polluted Halda River Water
The researchers studied the water quality of the Halda River in Bangladesh by analyzing different parameters like temperature, oxygen levels, pollution levels, and bacterial counts. They found that the river water is polluted, especially during breeding times. Heavy metal levels were within safe limits, but one bacterial strain, Bacillus wiedmannii, showed resistance to multiple antibiotics, which is concerning. Overall, the study shows that the water quality of the Halda River is declining, which could harm both people and aquatic life.
