New technology to turn ship waste heat into clean energy unveiled!
The article discusses using organic Rankine cycle (ORC) technology to recover waste heat from ships for power generation. The researchers evaluated the feasibility of recovering different types of waste heat and found that using multiple heat sources for ORC is the future trend. However, challenges like safety of working fluid and lower efficiency still exist. They built an experimental bench using a scroll expander and R245fa fluid to simulate waste heat recovery from a marine diesel engine. The bench produced a maximum power output of 526 W with a heat source of 90 °C, showing that the ORC system can effectively recover ship waste heat.
