Disadvantageous inequity aversion rooted in envy, not fairness, study finds.
People have different reactions to unfairness: they don't like getting less than others (disadvantageous inequity aversion) or more than others (advantageous inequity aversion). A study looked at how people view these reactions. They found that people don't see disadvantageous inequity aversion as fair, but they do see advantageous inequity aversion as fair. This means that feeling bad about getting less than others might be more about envy than fairness.
