Technocratic influence in Chilean policy-making traced back to 1850s.

Policies suggested by technocrats are more likely to be accepted by citizens than those proposed by party leaders. This was found in a survey of 5000 people in Italy, where different types of policymakers were tested. Technocrats are especially effective in gaining support for economic and valence issues. The effect is stronger among citizens who may not agree with the policy itself.
